- Alan Turing and David Champernowne develop an electronic chess video game known as Turochamp, but are unable to get it to run on the proto-computers of the time period.

- December 14: Patent for the CRT amusement device is issued under U.S Patent law to Thomas T. Goldsmith, Jr. and Estle Ray Mann, although nothing will be done with it.
