  • The company Binatone is founded by Gulu Lalvani and Partap Lalvani initially as a telecommunications company.

May[edit | edit source]

  • Unknown: The company Epoch Co. is founded by Maeda Taketora and three others, initially as a toy manufacturing and design company.

October[edit | edit source]

  • October 18: William Higinbotham completes development on Tennis for Two and showcases it at Brookhaven National Laboratory's annual public exhibition.
  • October 21: Tennis for Two's three-day exhibition ends. It was extremely popular among those who played it, so William Higinbotham ultimately decided to keep it. The game is considered the first ever video game, a consideration that would later be disputed between Magnavox and Ralph H. Baer during the height of the video game era. As such, it is often credited with kickstarting the video game era itself.
