  • Witold Podgórski completes development on Marienbad. He showcases it at the Military University of Technology in Poland. It is never played again, and no documented footage of it exists.

  • Unknown: Steve Russell's development on Spacewar! reaches the point where the game has rotatable spaceships.
  • February 29: Coleco goes public, offering stock at $5.00 a share.

March[edit | edit source]

  • Unknown: Annoyed by Spacewar!'s lack of realism in regards to the star field backdrop of the game, the TMRC member Peter Samson wrote a program based on real star charts for the game. Steve Russell then implemented this into Spacewar!

  • Unknown: Steve Russell completes development on Spacewar!.

May[edit | edit source]

  • Unknown: Steve Russell and his development team showcase Spacewar! at the MIT Science Open House. Graetz presents a paper about the game at the first meeting of the Digital Equipment Computer Users' Society. The game is a massive success.

  • Unknown: Steve Russell and his team spread to other universities and institutions, and Spacewar! spread with them. Spacewar! becomes the first video game in history to be shown outside a single institution.
