  • April 12: Development of Nimrod is completed.

July[edit | edit source]

  • July 30: Christopher Strachey's draughts program runs for the first time on the Pilot ACE, exhausting its memory.

September[edit | edit source]

  • Unknown: The Festival of Britain ends after five months, and Nimrod is removed from the festival grounds.

October[edit | edit source]

  • Unknown: Nimrod is shown for the second and last time at the Berlin Industrial Show. At some point later that month, after three weeks, Nimrod is finally dismantled.
  • Unknown: Christopher Strachey, having heard about the Manchester Mark I, reprograms his draughts game to work on the computer, which has larger memory than the Pilot ACE. Its said that the Manchester Mark I could "play a complete game of draughts at a reasonable speed."
