  • Christopher Strachey completes his draughts program with the CRT display.
  • Alexander S. Douglas begins and completes development on OXO for the EDSAC
    • Having made his point, A S. Douglas discards OXO.
  • Alan Turing tests the code of Turochamp on the newer computers, but is unable to get the program to run.
  • Arthur Samuel, inspired by Christopher Strachey's draughts program, develops his own checkers game for the IBM 701
